W&C Scott 8 bore sporting gun, 32″ Damascus barrel features a wide raised concave rib which bears the London address “W&C Scott & Son Patentees, 10 Gt Castle St Regent Circus London.”
Early example circa 1872, the water table is stamped ” Purdey Patent Bolt” and “Scott Patent Action”. This is a high grade waterfowler, fully engraved with English acanthus and vignettes of duck on the trigger guard and a retriever on the lock. The gun is in remarkable condition just out a house in the Boston area, where it has resided for over 100 years. Boston was the location for Wm. Read and Son, the U. S. agents for W&C Scott. Rich case colors compliment the engraving and deep sculpted action. Finely checkered straight hand stock and forend with horn tip. Dimensions 1-3/4″ comb, 2-3/4″ heel, 14-1/4″ LOP to a steel butt plate. Stocked for heads up shooting the gun mounts with surprising ease and the balance at the pin allows for a wonderful feel and swing!
Mechanically perfect, bright shiny bore, the gun locks the massive breech like a vault. Only the best Scott guns bear the Gt Castle St address. At 9 lbs, 13 oz, this likely was the extra lightweight model. Just a fabulous gun! SOLD
