2024 is the 100th anniversary of Americas premier rifle maker Griffin & Howe. This G&H rifle #779 is a magnificent example of the brainchild of Col. Townsend Whelen and the craftsmen of this truly American institution.
Chambered for the iconic 35 Whelen, the 22 inch barrel is fitted with a quarter rib, 3 folding sights marked 100, 200, and 300 yards.
Built on the traditional Springfield Action with the bolt knob checkered and the flag safety marked Safe/Ready. Original Lyman peep rear sight, comes up straight to the eye as you shoulder the rifle.
No old time drop at the comb or heel with this one, the classic lines are smooth and unbroken .
Never had a scope mounted to break the profile. As in the tradition of Hemingway, iron sights only. The rifle has a wonderful stock of fiery flame walnut with contrasting grain and black fore end tip. A steel grip cap and checkered trap butt keeps what appears to be the original cleaning rod. Incredibly, the original sling with the G&H logo is still with the rifle!
Ordered by the President of Tiffany & Co. circa late 1920s, the rifle remains in 99% condition from out of the original owners family. Just in time for the G&H commemoration and the special run of New 35 Whelen rifles to be built.
Here we have the finest period G&H 35 Whelan on the market!
